Recently I received another email prayer request for a specific family's
soldier son in Afghanistan. The soldier wrote home describing how awful and
scary things looked for them over there. He asked for prayers for his fellow
soldiers and that God help their commanders in their decision making and in
building their battle strategy.
What does His
Living Word teach us?
How many times over the course of History have we heard this before? How
has our Lord played a role in all this in the past? What does His Living
Word teach us?
While reading the books of Judges, 1Samuel, 2Samuel, 1Kings, 2Kings,
1Chronicles, and 2Chronicles we consistently see how when God's people
worshipped Him as a nation they were blessed. When they drifted away from
God, they were cursed. And how was it that they were cursed? Their enemies
would gain victory over them. They would become a repressed people. Then,
they would cry out to the Lord in pain. As they amended their ways to please
the Lord, the Lord would have mercy and give their soldiers victories to
bring them out of their oppression. The pattern repeats itself many times so
that no other conclusion can be drawn.
When God's people lived a life pleasing to our Lord, honoring
|
Him and worshipping Him, they lived in peace. When God's people turned their back
on the Lord living in their sinful ways, God no longer protected them from
the evil of their fellow man. The armies of their enemies would over run
them in victories.
Could this be a
wake-up call for America?
Could this be a wake-up call for America? If we expect to continue to be
the strongest nation on earth, we cannot cut off the source of our strength.
As the nation of God's people drift away from Him, the first place any sign
of pestilence shows up is in the battlefield. Our prayers for our troops
overseas may not help until we once again publicly worship God here at home
in our schools, public squares, buildings, and sports arenas.
America must put God first.
We must put God first. Our nation not accepting the practices of
abortion, homosexuality, prostitution, pornography, gambling, and drug use
will go a long way toward pleasing God. My fear is that our slippage in
these areas is coming to give us our just recompense. It is here at home
where we gain God's favor and ultimately get success on the battlefields
abroad. □ |
